Why won't my parents let me date outside the family?

I’m sick of dating my cousins, I just want to be like everyone else and date outside of my family. My parents get angry whenever I suggest it. How can I convince them?

Well if they’re christian, tell them God says incest is wrong. If they’re not, then tell them incest has been know to create genetic deficiencies and abnormalities in babies.That’s why most families don’t do it and frown upon it.

You have the right to go see other people at the age of 13. Your parents are just stubborn and need a wake up call. If its what you want and you see a boy you like in school or at work, become friends and bring him home every once in a while but keep it between yourself untill you want to marry. They will have to accept it by the time you’re 18 if you’re not already. I’m sorry to hear about your parents being so up tight. I hope things work out.
another idea is simply to keep buggin them saying "I’m going to fall in love and have children with or without your blessing" (hopefully your christian though) its your life after 18 yrs remember that.
if they are coupling you with your cousins its possibly an enforced and controlled practice run for when they think you’re ready. But if you have a boy in mind then let love fly outside the bedroom and let over controlling parents be damned with their childish insecurities.

What is their reasoning behind this? Is it a cultural thing? My advice to you, is to do what feels right for you. It is your life, and I can understand trying to please your parents, but ultimately it is your decision. You have to decide what is more important to you. This does not sound like a healthy situation and there comes a point in everyone’s life when you have to what you think is right, even if it means upsetting the one’s closest to you.

umm you should probably tell your parents that’s not good for your self esteem. It’ll make you more self conscious about meeting other people. Also, I don’t think that’s legal except for like in Alabama. Another thing is if you and your cousin end up having sex…. then your children will be mutated. INBREEDING! My opinion- Dating your family members is just wrong on soo many levels. You are basically being forced to date your own flesh and blood. Ew. That’s like if you were forced to date your brother or sister. And are your parents trying to keep you from the outside world?
