Posted on 31. Jul, 2010 by Eve in Parenting

I have a 2yr old daughter and haven’t read much magazines while raising her not that it was difficult raising her without the mags but they would have certainly given me more ideas.. I would like to subscribe for 1 or 2 magazines and checkout the remaining at a local library.. I am looking for ideas and suggestions in parenting and having fun with your child kinda stuff in magazines like Parents, Child, Parenting, American Baby, Parenting world, etc I would like to gather your suggestions, Pros and cons of the mags you have been reading, Thanks !

I like Parents. When I renewed my subscription, they started sending the Seasame Street Magazine for my kids. I like Parents because I find more articles to read in it than Parenting. I like the set-up. There is always something I can quickly glance at or an in-depth article if I actually have some time to read. I think it is fairly realistic – not overly pricey, realize that parents have lives outside of their kids, have easy recipes, etc.

I strongly suggest talking with other parents, grandparents and friends who have successfully raised children. I’ve read some of these magazines and after raising 4 children of my own I can say much of what they write is bunk. The most important things you can do for your child are:

    Love their mother(father)
ALWAYS be there for them- What’s more important; a big house and fancy car or a well adjusted, loving child who respects others?
Be a parent not a friend- you will become friends when they are adults.
Learn to say NO and mean it.

When my 20 year old son came home from college one day and told me thanks for staying home and taking care of he and his siblings I knew all the sacrficies that my husband and I made over the years had been worth it.

    Good luck.

I had Child magazine for a while and it always made me paranoid about my parenting. Try something else.
