PositiveParentingSolutions.com ► Book ► http Facebook ► facebook.com Twitter ► twitter.com Welcome to the Positive Parenting Solution of the Week! This week’s tip will help you minimize sibling rivalry and competition. The unfortunate truth about sibling relationships is that there’s a natural sense of rivalry that sets in. There’s nothing you can do to eliminate it completely — but there are things you can do to minimize it. It’s important to be aware of what parents unknowingly do to intensify rivalry. These seem like innocent gestures but they can have harmful and lasting consequences. One of the biggies is to make sure we’re not comparing our kids through labels, spoken or implied. Because, If you’re the smart one, the pretty one, the athletic one — then I must be the opposite. If mom calls me her “wild one” — then that let’s you feel pretty “superior” and that’s a recipe that’s ripe for resentment, very. Some labels are more subtle. If you hand your son a stack of plates to carry into the dining room and you say, “Now hold these very tightly and don’t trip over the rug.” He probably perceives himself as clumsy. If you remind your daughter 15 times every morning to not forget her homework, lunch or PE clothes — you can bet she’s wearing the disorganized or forgetful label. Another subtle but discouraging label is the Go-To Kid: This is the child you can count on to complete a task competently and without much complaining—so whenever you really need something

DAYS DEPRIVED:1125 ( Parental Alienation of a Singapore father. For my son Adriel Cheng)

Join my FaceBook group here – www.facebook.com My blog for my son – parental-alienation-singapore.blogspot.com Ever since Care & Control was given to my ex-spouse (who was represented by PAP MP Mr Lim Biow Chuan) by Singapore Family Court, I was totally deprived of access to my son for 10 mths from Sep 08 to Jun 09 despite an existing Court Order giving me 8 hr access time per wk. When I brought this up to the Court, not only was the 8 hrs access time not being enforced, & outstanding hrs not being made up to me as stated in the Court Order, my access time was instead being REDUCED to JUST 1 HR PER WK. And it has to take place at a Family Centre assigned by the Court (we have to pay 0/hr to be with our children). Despite me bonding extremely well with my son at the Family Centre for 6 mths (Jul 09 to Jan 10), they arranged for a court counselor to interview my son and determined that “it is in his best interest that I do see him”, and that “I may affect his PSLE examinations”. So I was COMPLETELY BLOCKED FROM ACCESS TO MY SON for the next 8 mths. Such OPPRESSIONS are not uncommon among parents without Care & Control, and it is hardly the kind of fair justice that we are hoping for in our modern society. I believe more could be done to help parents bond with their estrangled children. Many Singaporean divorced parents and children are suffering everyday as a result of Parental Alienation (PA). Here are 3 cases in 2009: www.divaasia.com (reported on the 5th July issue of

John Tracy Clinic – The Beginning

After Spencer and Louise Tracy’s infant son was diagnosed with profound hearing loss in 1925, Mrs. Tracy devoted her time and energy to studying how deaf children could be taught to communicate with the hearing and speaking world. She patiently guided her son, John, into an understanding of language and lip-reading. With her encouragement, he learned to speak. In 1942, Mrs. Tracy responded to a desperate call for help from twelve other mothers of young deaf children by founding John Tracy Clinic. Mrs. Tracy compassionately established programs to educate and offer emotional support to parents and their preschool deaf youngsters, free of charge. By encouraging parents to build a foundation of communication with their young children during the critical language development stage from birth through age five, the Clinic has enabled thousands of boys and girls to master the challenges of oral communication.
