Visit savantmd.com formore health tips and videos or follow us on http In my office I’ll often see people who are new parents or parents of young children come in for various muscle aches in the back, arms, shoulders, and neck. I try to impress upon them that their bodies are just not used to carrying around 15, 20, even 30 pounds for long periods at a time while, most likely, doing something else. Sometimes it’s hard to avoid having to reach down into a crib to pick up an infant but paying attention to what you’re doing, putting the child down and not trying to do too much at once can go a long way to preventing future injuries. It’s also important to practice good body mechanics when lifting by bending your legs, bringing the child in close to your waist and lifting with your legs. For more health and wellness tips and for more information on proper body mechanics from our physical therapist, Deanna Savant, please visit www.savantmd.com Dr. Mark Savant is a General Internist.
