2Pac – Brenda’s Got A Baby
Posted on 30. Jul, 2010 by Eve.
“Brenda’s Got a Baby” is the solo debut single by Tupac Shakur, and tenth track from his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now. The song, which features R&B singer Dave Hollister, is about a fictional twelve-year-old girl named Brenda who lives in a ghetto, has a baby, and is incapable of supporting it. The song explores the issue of teen pregnancy and its effect on the young mothers and their families. Like many of Shakur’s songs, “Brenda’s Got a Baby” draws from the plight of the impoverished. Using Brenda to represent young mothers in general, Shakur criticises the low level of support from the babies’ father, the government, and society in general. Shakur wrote the song when he read a newspaper article about a twelve-year-old girl who got pregnant from her cousin and, because she didn’t want her parents to know about the baby, threw it in a trash can. The opening consists of a duet singing the songs title repeatedly. Much of the rest of the song is one long verse performed by Tupac. The verse begins with him telling a group that he has heard about Brendas pregnancy. He also notes that the girl has had virtually no education in her life, having only barely obtained minimal skills in writing, and calls this a “damn shame”, criticizing and has little hope in life. Her family is very poor, and her father is a heroin addict. Brenda is impregnated by her unnamed boyfriend, who is her cousin, but she is successfully able to hide her pregnancy. Tupac explains that it wouldnt matter to …

Is it weird for a teenager to be close with their parents/family?
Posted on 30. Jul, 2010 by Eve.
I feel immature for my age because I always close to my parents about any problem or concern I have. I don’t really trust too many people about it. And I like to hear about their history as kids and such. Is that weird? It seems as if my cousins aren’t like that with their parent(s) and I feel like a kid when my dad would show concern if I’ve returned from someplace or if my mom and I would talk.

My mom is always reading these parenting magazines?!?
Posted on 30. Jul, 2010 by Eve.
I am 13 years old and my mom is constantly reading these magazines that talk about how to be a better parent. That’s just fine and dandy, but she always is quoting the magazines and stuff; it really is annoying. Example:
She says, "You should try blah blah blah because that’s what my magazine said." and she comes up with statistics out of nowhere, like some kind of calculator. "Did you know that 76.9% of people who paint their nails on a regular basis will end up with some form of cancer from the inhalation of the fumes?" she says. I paint my nails a lot, and so I asked, "Where did you hear that?" and her unspecific answer is, "Oh, in some magazine." She makes up the numbers, usually; I think…
And I’ve read the magazine articles. They sound sort of like this book I had once that talks about how to take care of you pet, except in the articles, it’s "How to _____ for your Teen." Like, teens are such alien creatures! One month the magazine will say to give your teen tough love. The next, it will say to pamper your teen. She always goes along with it, and makes the whole family [my dad, and my 11 year old sister] try whatever new trick it gives on how to have a better family life and how to build a relationship with your kid. Frankly, I would have a MUCH better relationship with her if she would stop reading the magazines and quoting them and basically becoming a slave for them and whatever silly idea they have!
I know she’s just trying to be a good parent, but I’m not sure how long I can put up with it. My sister agrees with me, but obviously, she’s too young for an account on here.
So, the question is, what should I do about this? I’ve tried actually hiding the magazines, but then she just went out and bought them in the grocery store line. It’s really ruining any relationship [as the magazines say] that I would potentially have built with her. I’ve also tried talking to her about it, calmly and rationally, but her reply was, "So, you’re saying you know more than Jane Doe, MDD? I don’t think so, young lady!"

Does anyone know the website for the sterling silver name rings in the back of one of the parenting magazines?
Posted on 29. Jul, 2010 by Eve.
When I was pregnant with my son (about 2 years ago) I saw an ad in the back of one of my parenting magazines for these really cute interlocking sterling silver rings that you can have personalized with your kids names on them. I have seen it since, but can’t remember the web address and I can’t find it with a search…Now that I am pregnant again, I’d like to look in to getting one for myself, but I can’t remember the URL. Anyone remember seeing the rings I’m talking about and the web address??? Thanks for your help!!
